Skiing is not an easy job

Well, new year 2010 started with a cold bang! yep, you heard it right... with -7 degree C temperature, we went for skiing in sugar mountains in North Carolina. From far, it looks very simple and full of fun... but it is not.

The first problem starts with those heavy boots. Each must be weighing at least 5 Kg!! So all set. Need to carry 10 Kgs by our feet. Well, needs a lot of courage and power... isn't it? The funny part is, we need to fit these boots on a skating pad kind of thing, don't know what they call it. That too long in size. Now when you go out with this out fit, you can imagine how would you walk :)

We took almost 30 mins to fit into the stuff and came out. Precaution - we need to be fully tight... there shouldn't be any place where air can pass you. You know what I mean :) Safety first. While getting ready, we came to know that we must take classes before skiing and the last one is at 2.30 PM. Due to the very Indian nature, we were late. Instructor said no to us. Now what? Eklavya! Yes, right. We decided to see how instructor is teaching the class, learn and then go for skiing. FYI, class was being run in the open place and we could hear the instructions and can see all the tactics he was telling.

Again, due to very Indian nature, we didn't had patience to hear to the whole lecture and jumped on the hill slope full of ice. It was easy jumping but as soon as I made a move... my god! what is it!!! am going down slipping so fast..... oooops!! Horrible... so many people are skiing in front of me and am unable to stop myself... what next??? don't know and next moment I am down on the ice :( But, thanks God, I didn't hit anyone and stopped before I go to the next ditch and take the ambulance. Now the big problem is, how to stand up again? Fighting again and again with never say die attitude. Finally, one lady felt pity on me and gave me the hand and I was standing on my feet :) Ah! what a relaxed moment. Again, thanks to Indian nature, I moved and slipped :) Now hit a small boundary over there which saved me from felling down :) Same with my friends as well. In total, we all were having fun in slipping and felling. No skiing in sight so far.

In the last, one of our friend who had prior experience, gave us some tips as how to ski. Note, he did not ski... don't know why. May be he had little bad experience in past... lol. Thanks to him, we were finally able to ski a bit. Whatever it was, it was full of fun and a grand start of the new year! what say?? I know you'll agree with me.
